No wonder our perception of beauty is warped...

Over the last 5 years we've seen several revolutions in the fashion, beauty and entertainment industry. But they all have one thing in common: perfection. I think we've disocvered the the fountain of youth, and its name is PHOTOSHOP! When we read magazines and see these young (and old!) men and women advertising products like makeup and fragrances and hair products etc etc, we are shown images that have been so digitally altered that they don't even look real or human at times. We make these images the benchmark for beauty (and I include guys in this statement because magazines like Men's Health are just as guilty of doing this.) and we accept it as the way that we are all supposed to look.

It's wack! We all want to look like this, Girls want to be dangerously thin with perfect skin and hair. Guys want to be muscular, tall and more recently the trends also lean towards being males being as this as possible. Its unreal. We will never be perfect and NO amount of plastic surgery will ever help.

I could give you a whole list of cliches and crap like that about how we should love ourselves. But that just doesn't work! No amount of self-help and positive messages will stop the multi-billion dollar fashion industry from warping our view of real life and how REAL people look. I think all we can do, as teenagers, is wait until we reach 40 and realise that people really don't care that much about how thin you are, how you look or what you wear. In the mean time: DON'T commit suicide or anything like that because it will be a total waste. Focus on your intelligence and other stuff that will keep your mind occupied until then. And take comfort in the fact that if you take away the makeup, the clothes, the Photoshop and the small village of people that work on a single model to make Him/Her look great...Models and celebrities are just like us. they're pimply, FAT, sometimes ugly and have bad hair.
